Loch Raven Model Congress is a one day legislative simulation. After advisors register with the county, students will be assigned a chamber of Congress and a committee on which they will serve. Students then research and write bills prior to the simulation, uploading their final bills into the LRMC Dropbox folders. On the day of the simulation, students advocate for their bill in committee and argue for/against the proposals of their fellow committee members. The simulation moves through the legislative process throughout the day.

The cost of LRMC is $26/student. Renee Baylin, rbaylin@bcps.org, will arrange the transportation schedule and send it to advisors. The Office of Secondary Social Studies will pay for the transportation. Please remember that advisors must complete all field trip paperwork and processes for their students.

Proposed Changes for 2017 LRMC:

  • Who can participate in LRMC? Although typically GT American Government students have been targeted for the program, you can now invite highly interested students from other course levels to participate in the program.
  • Can other schools participate in Princeton Model Congress? PMC will take place the weekend before Thanksgiving in Washington, D.C. The Office of Secondary Social Studies will pay for transportation to and from PMC, but the student costs need to be covered by the students/schools. Please contact Michael Crispens if you have any interested students who have participated in LRMC in the past.
  • Can a school bring more than 10 students to LRMC? Possibly. We may be able to open additional spaces once initial registration is completed.
  • Do LRMC advisors get an EDA? Not in the past. Some teachers conduct the bill writing process and preparation for LRMC within class time. But, for those teachers who use LRMC like an after school club, we need you to keep a log of your after school hours. This data will help us make a case for LRMC EDA next year. You'll find a log template HERE
